Pillar 3a fees: bank or insurance

Published 15 October 2026 · updated 15 October 2026 · Written or reviewed by Christophe Bouin

Bank or insurance: which one deducts more? Neither. The FSIO ceiling is the same (7'258 CHF with a 2nd pillar, 36'288 CHF without). The difference is the contract: fees, guarantees, and what remains if you stop in year three.

Insurance fees, without a made-up scale

Three lines, and no invented percentage: acquisition costs at the start of the policy, the cost of guarantees (death, disability, waiver of premium) if they are included, and the gap between premiums paid and the surrender value. If premiums stop: stopping a pillar 3a policy.

The wider frame is the Swiss third pillar. From 1 January 2027 the Federal Council sets 7,373 francs with a 2nd pillar and 36,864 francs at most without one. The 20% rate is unchanged. Press release of 2 October 2026: https://www.admin.ch/fr/newnsb/BqB41FVYi5FB.
