Third pillar in Geneva

Published 1 July 2022 · updated 3 October 2026 · Written or reviewed by Christophe Bouin

Is the pillar 3a ceiling higher in Geneva? No. In 2026 it is the federal FSIO maximum: 7'258 CHF with a 2nd pillar, 36'288 CHF without. Cantonal income tax changes the saving, not the right to pay in. The Geneva rule targets life-insurance premiums, not a 3b bonus. From 1 January 2027 the Federal Council sets 7,373 francs with a 2nd pillar and 36,864 francs at most without one. The 20% rate is unchanged. Press release of 2 October 2026: https://www.admin.ch/fr/newnsb/BqB41FVYi5FB.

The wider frame is the Swiss third pillar.

Questions

Your questions, answered

The questions people ask before they request a comparison.

Is there a Geneva bonus on pillar 3a?+

No. The right to pay in is the federal ceiling. The cantonal tax changes the francs saved, not that ceiling.

What about life premiums?+

Article 31(d) targets life-insurance premiums. Orders of magnitude often cited: about 2'232 CHF for a single person, 3'348 CHF for spouses, 913 CHF per dependant. That is the year’s Geneva notice, not OPP 3.
