Using pillar 3a and pillar 3b together

Published 13 October 2026 · updated 13 October 2026 · Written or reviewed by Christophe Bouin

Do you have to choose pillar 3a or pillar 3b? Often they fit together. Pillar 3a takes the national deduction (FSIO, article 7 OPP 3). Pillar 3b takes flexibility: beneficiaries, access, sometimes a cantonal premium envelope. There is no official source for a ranking of “the best third pillar”.

The wider frame is the Swiss third pillar.
