When to start a third pillar

Published 6 December 2021 · updated 20 September 2026 · Written or reviewed by Christophe Bouin

Start when earned income is subject to OASI and the payment will not empty your cash reserve. A year missed before 2025 is not bought back. From the 2026 tax year, only gaps from 2025 can be bought back, inside the small contribution.

The buy-back rules: pillar 3a gaps.

The wider frame is the Swiss third pillar.
